How to reduce hair fall and the best natural remedies to control hair fall

Hair fall is one of the most widely faced problems faced by the women across the globe today. As you grow older, your hair goes through a lot of changes. Body heat mis-management, exposure to products with harsh chemicals, frequent hair styling, stress and menopause are some of the most common causes of hair fall in women. If you are someone who is trying many products to control hair fall, you're not alone. But did you know that Ayurveda can offer you a solution without any side effects? Read on for more information on some of the root causes of hair fall and ways to control hair fall naturally.

Body heat mismanagement may cause hair fall:

According to Ayurveda, Pitta or fire is considered to be the root factor that governs skin and hair health. An excess of Pitta in the body can lead to issues like hairfall and premature greying of hair. This Dosha causes your hair follicles to heat up; it is also related to stress-induced hair fall in a similar manner. Ayurveda also says that balancing the excess Pitta, by cooling it down, can help with hair loss.

Using Shampoos and other hair products containing harsh chemicals:

There are many chemicals used in hair care products that you use regularly and in hair styling products that you may use once in a while that can cause serious damage to your hair follicles and scalp. This eventually results in hair thinning and hair loss. Harsh chemicals like Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, Parabens, Propylene Glycol, Hydrogen Peroxide, Phthalates and sodium chloride are found in shampoos, hair masques, hair gels, etc. Apart from the chemicals in hair care products, some of these toxic chemicals could also be can also occur because of their presence in the atmosphere or in water

Frequently changing hairstyles, using heat treatments and chemical based products:

Using heat and/or chemical products for hair styling could cause serious damage to your hair. Some hair straightening methods use harsh chemicals like sodium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide as hair relaxants to straighten your hair. These chemicals could cause skin burn when they get in contact with the scalp and could result in hair fall. Chemical based hair dyes contain harmful chemicals like ammonia, could also ammonia, diaminobenzene, DMDM hydantoin, resorcinol, lead acetate etc. These chemicals used in hair colouring products have potential to damage your hair and scalp and cause hair fall. They not only could cause scalp irritation but can also damage your lungs, lead to neurological problems, and hormonal imbalances by affecting your body’s endocrine system.

A sudden decrease in Silica content in your blood:

Higher silicone content in hair results in lower hair loss and increased hair brightness, studies on effect of silica on hair have suggested. Silica has been known to deliver essential nutrients to the scalp and hair follicles, and may therefore help strengthen hair and prevent hair breakage. It may also help prevent hair loss and helps maintain hair shine. A sudden decrease in Silica could result in less nutrition to the hair and cause increased hairfall.

Dandruff:

Dandruff by itself does not cause hairfall. When dandruff symptoms become severe, it can cause itchiness in the scalp and can cause the affected person to scratch their scalp resulting in injuries to the scalp. Repeated inflammation in the hair follicles can cause damage and also scar the scalp, slowing down hair growth or sometimes even stopping it.

Some of the best practices to reduce hair fall are:

Wash your hair in water at atmospheric temperature

As a general rule, Ayurveda advises to use cold water bath for head, as hot water bathing is bad for hair.

Have fruits and other foods which are rich in silica

Studies have noted that Silica helps deliver essential nutrients to the scalp and hair follicles. Silica is known to help prevent hair loss and maintain hair shine.  Bananas, raisins and dried dates are known to be rich in silica. Adding these to your diet will help support your hair.

Avoid harsh chemicals usage

Avoid using chemicals or heat to style or colour hair. Consider natural hair dyes like Henna & Indigo for colouring your hair. These natural dyes also have immense benefits for your hair.
